In the world where most of the Organizations say- “We are an equal opportunity employer”, unfortunately, the hiring process in a few organizations is still based on the irrational techniques like “Percentage of marks- secured in Indian Schools and Colleges”. This sounds absurd after looking at the significant development of human minds and Technology. Companies still find "marks scored" mesmerizing as a criterion to screen in/out candidates.
I am delighted to hear that top MNCs (wont call out names) are hiring rapidly, however, I was informed that the criterion (candidates with 60 % and above as aggregate) sounds very discouraging in the contemporary course of hiring.
We treat India’s “traditional” and “borrowed” (rather imposed) Lord MacAulay’s education policy as the foundation of our education system. Lord MacAulay’s education policy contains a few negative elements. The old education system of our country has become obsolete and has been discarded as it does not suit the needs of modern society. The old system was unproductive and moribund to the condition, which could not stand the test of scientific experiment and which also couldn’t satisfy rational thinking. Lord Macaulay (Thomas Babington) realized in early thirties of the 19th century that this system as adopted in India produced clerks who by education were to be of service to fulfill the demands of the British administration. It certainly created loyal clerks and officers of lower cadre and for sometime seemed to be successful in realizing the end sought for British Empire.
On the contrary, we are living in a world where science and technology has radically grown and we are amongst the top players of lunar mission. The traditional education system cannot be fruitful for a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and “DEVELOPING” country like India.
Let’s examine how it is so easy to secure marks in Indian system of education. Cheating is the most frequently, consciously and easily used tool to secure excellent marks because of the current system of education. I consider “mugging the entire book up” and “taking a chit to the examination hall” similar as the only difference is the media used.
We generally have more than 90% students in a class opting for Sanskrit (Senior classes) as it is the most scoring subject as projected by the teachers, however, those 90% students when grow up don’t remember even the Gayatri Mantra. They go for engineering, medical or any other subject competent of cultivating faster franks for them.
Look it from a different dimension, a student who mugs up the notes given by the teacher, scores better than a student who works on his own. This is realistic and it happens in our schools, colleges and reputed institutions. “Pragmatism” and “India’s education policy” are antonyms to each other.
“Saffronisation of our education” was the catch phrase during the BJP rule. Our syllabus in history books during the NDA Gov was changed twice in just one year. Saraswati Vandana was made compulsory in schools. The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi “a great twirl in the Indian history” could not find 5* 4 cms.
The assertion of the Authors regarding the existence of Kailash Parvat, Mansarovar and Baikunth was really a joke for the genuine historians. People would go to china to see Mansarovar and Kailash but where would they go to visit Baikunth (The residence of lord Vishnu). The authors have provided facts regarding the Jazia tax. As per the books, during the rule of “Akbar the Great” (known for promoting secularism) tax levied on Hindus was 70% and just 30% on the Muslims. The Islamic rulers always treated the subject people as inferior, unequal and a second-class citizen. The Islamic rulers levied Jazia (Protection Tax) on non-Muslims and banned bearing of arms. They called the protected people as Dhimmi and imposed on them many shameful restrictions and special taxes so that they may feel compelled to convert. The atrocities committed on Sikh gurus by Aurangzeb are clearly written in the history books. The Facts are required but are they really required for students in junior classes?
These facts are crafting confusion amongst different communities in society. If a student does not study this irrational stuff, may secure low scores. It is so easy to get high scores in Indian education system, while intelligence is something can not be acquired. It is within and gets better by experience.
There are several logical ways to screen out candidates. Organizations can use different intelligence and psychometric tests to validate the “I.Q” and “E.Q” of the Candidates. The bottom line is opportunity should not be restricted to the candidates who secure excellent marks. Candidates with an excellent I.Q should be considered equally.
It somehow doesn't amaze but always pleases me that you not only have these thoughts running around in your head but you make them felt. You are one of those people have the ability to be the change you expect! Good job!
